How the gold rate in India is worked out
Gold and silver are priced worldwide in US dollars per troy ounce (31.1035 grams). India imports most of its gold, so the local price follows the international spot price, the rupee–dollar rate, customs duty (currently 6% in total on gold and silver bars) and 3% GST. Jewellers then add making charges.
